My love will always act, for me it’s a job like no other… The development of your mind and your ability to think critically is very important. As an actor, your mind is one of the most important instruments. The more perspectives you bring to your work, the more diversity and variety you will bring to your role. From children’s actor to national competition finalist to university graduate, Mason Gamble proved he could do it all and more after becoming the leading actor in the 1993 comedy Dennis Threat. Gamble, who was selected as one of the 20,000 candidates for the national casting, gave a starring performance to Walter Matthau and continued shooting the films Just in Time, Bad Moon and Hard Spy before leaving the game to enjoy a normal childhood. Over the years he has appeared sporadically on television and in films, and his last major achievement in 2011 was the film Golf in the Kingdom, which reminds us of the journey to fame of a 31 year old!
Mason Wilson Gamble stood in the middle of the crowd shortly after celebrating his sixth birthday on the 16th day of his career. January 1992, just before the excitement and fame, when he convinced his parents to let him audition for a national talent scout for a new film called Dennis the Threat. Inspired by the comic of the same name, the filming of the film was a favorite project of directors Nick Castle and John Hughes, who talked for years about making a live-action version of the cartoon before finally agreeing to do the project with Warner Bros. After already playing Walter Matthau as George Wilson, Castle and Hughes were looking for the perfect kid for the role of Dennis Mitchell, creating a national casting where they listened to over 20,000 children before deciding on a groundbreaking role with Gamble!
Gamble, who played an incredible role in this mischievous threat and won the Young Artist Award for Best Young Actor in a Film Comedy, made a lasting impression in Hollywood and returned to the screen three years later as Noah in Just in Time, McCluckey in Hard Spy and Brett in Bad Moon. In 1997 he played the lead role of Vincent Freeman in the Gattaca film and in 1998 he played alongside Bill Murray Dirk Calloway in the dramatic comedy Rushmore. Once again his performance was in the spotlight, as he was nominated for the Young Artist and Young Star Award.
The gamble continued to ride the wave of her growing fame and won the Young Artist Award in 1999 for her work in the TV film The Ani Bell, followed by a permanent role in the TV series Kate Brasher in 2001. He contributed to The Rising Place, A Gentleman’s Game and The Trouble with Dee Dee and appeared in Close to Home and CSI : He graduated cum laude from Oak Park and River Forest High School in 2004, where he was a finalist in the national competition. He then went to the University of California in Los Angeles, where he was a member of the P Kappa Alpha Brotherhood before graduating in 2008.
After his slow return to Hollywood, Gamble was on the big screen in 2011 when he played the role of Michael Murphy in the adaptation of the novel Golf in the Reich in 1971. We’re talking about a young man at some point in his life, and he has these expectations about where he’s going and the exact path he has to take to get there, said the film’s guess. He then has 24 hours, which corresponds to 180 of his ideas. She leads him to where he thinks he should go and makes him understand that he is concentrating on the wrong things. I think many young people are often in this transitional phase of their lives. I know I was in a transitional phase of my life not so long ago. This role has received due attention over time.
The opportunity to collaborate with David O’Hara of Tudor, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is another benefit of working on this project, especially as the film was shot on location in Bandon Dune, off the coast of Oregon. It’s incredible to work with David, Gamble was eager to work with a talented actor. He not only brought to life the role of Shiva’s Iron, but also the concentration and power he can control on the screen… You’re really attracted to him when he’s in the same boat as you are. The silence with which he can play the scene is truly overwhelming. He’s a damn good actor and very professional. It was a very small crew, and we were three hours away from where we fired. So it was great that David was there to support and lean on him. We got very close and had a good time together.
In addition to working with O’Hara, Golf in the Kingdom marked another transition for Gamble, who announced after the film that he had returned to school for a second degree; this time to study marine biology. Now I’ve got about two quarters of the school left, he said. In an interview in 2011 Gamble admitted that he still enjoys acting and that any chance to develop his mind will only improve his acting skills. He promised he’d come back one day, but that’s not entirely true… …not yet. With his website inactive and absolutely no sign of social networking, Gamble, 31, can be anywhere, from studying marine life and diving on the Great Barrier Reef to working in a local office, where he dreams of his big comeback in Tinsel Town. While we wait for the official news, we’ll have to do with a little nostalgia for the repetition of Dennis Disgusting, where freckled Gamble shouted Hey, Mr. Wilson… …with a nasty tooth grin!
